During a visit to the Airport and Enterprise Zone on 18 March 2022, MP Robert Courts, Under Secretary of State for the Department of Transport, visited LEHQ to see the amazing work the College are doing to support local and national businesses with their training needs.
LEHQ is a £12 million state-of-the-art energy and engineering training facility which has been specifically designed to meet the challenges of future energy production from the growth of renewables to revival of our nuclear energy facilities. In an era where we need to make good on pledges made on climate change and now in an increasingly unstable geopolitical situation, the UK’s ability to generate sufficient power to independently meet its domestic and commercial energy needs has never been more important. Consequently, ensuring we have the highly skilled workforce is critical to making this possible.
During the visit Robert was given a tour of the industry-standard facilities and had the chance to experience our unique half-million pound pressurised water reactor nuclear simulator which allows students to gain a valuable insight into the operations of a nuclear power plant and undertake various exercises including accident scenario simulations.
