Course Overview

Do you work with electric or hybrid vehicles and want to take your mechanic skills further? The Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Repair Level 4 course gives you the advanced knowledge to diagnose, test, and repair electric vehicle systems safely and confidently.

This IMI Level 4 electric vehicle course is perfect for qualified mechanics, EV technicians, and anyone working in automotive repair who wants to specialise in electric vehicle technology.

You’ll build practical skills in fault finding, system testing, and battery diagnostics used by today’s electric car mechanics and hybrid vehicle specialists.

As electric and hybrid vehicles become more common, skilled technicians are in high demand. This mechanic training helps you stay ahead in the motor industry with recognised IMI mechanic qualifications and up-to-date EV repair training.

Entry Requirements

This qualification should only be taken after completing Unit EV3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement. It’s also recommended that you have at least six months of experience working with electric or hybrid vehicles, or you can complete a Learner Eligibility Form showing proof of related or relevant experience.

Assessment Methods

  • Practical Assessments: You’ll demonstrate your ability to diagnose, service, and repair electric and hybrid vehicles in a workshop environment.
  • Knowledge Tests: You’ll complete short online or written tests to check your understanding of electric vehicle systems, high-voltage safety, and repair procedures.
  • Final Competence Review: You’ll take part in a knowledge assessment to confirm your ability to work safely and effectively as an electric vehicle technician.
