Course Overview
Diagnosis and component replacement to keep modern motor vehicles safe to use on the road and operating to optimum performance and efficiency. This Vehicle Inspection course is an ideal place to start your career journey into this exciting, lucrative and rewarding industry at this time of the academic year. You will focus more on the routine maintenance of motor vehicles and be looking to enter the industry as a service technician or have aspirations of becoming an MOT tester.

Entry Requirements
- You must be aged 19+ when the course starts in January
- You must be able to work hard and maintain high levels of attendance
- You should have a passion for motor vehicles and a keen interest in working in the automotive industry
There are no formal qualification requirements, but you should have reasonably good levels of English and maths skills.
Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Assessment Methods
This course will cover the following modules:
- Health and Safety Practices in Vehicle Maintenance
- Tools, Equipment and Materials for Vehicle Maintenance
- Spark Ignition Engine Systems, Components and Operation
- Inspection, Repair and Replacement of Light Vehicle Tyres
- Inspection and Replacement of Light Vehicle Braking Systems
- Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance (Servicing)
The assessment weighting is as follows:
- 16 x Practical Task Assessments
- 1 x Online Tests
Industry Placement and Field Trips
Other Costs and Equipment Needed
You will need to provide your own safety boots and overalls / boiler suit for practical activities. A typical pair of safety boots should cost no more than £12 and a pair of overalls £15. All other protective equipment will be provided by us.
All tools and equipment are provided for practical sessions and access to computers and all software required for the course is available within the College facilities.
You will be expected to provide your own pen, pencil, basic drawing equipment and a note pad.
