Course Overview

Are you a vehicle technician or car mechanic whose job role involves light vehicle inspection, maintenance and repair. Are you looking to expand your skills into electric and hybrid vehicles? The IMI Accreditation Electric Vehicle Technician course gives you the practical knowledge to test, service, and repair electric vehicles safely.

This electric car mechanic training is ideal for professionals who already have mechanic qualifications and want to gain official IMI accreditation for working on electric cars and hybrid vehicles. You’ll learn to carry out electric vehicle battery testing, inspect high-voltage systems, and safely service electric motors and components.

As electric cars become more common, this automotive training helps you stay current with IMI-certified skills and boost your professional profile as a qualified EV mechanic.

Entry Requirements

To take this course, you must be a qualified vehicle technician or car mechanic who can work without supervision. Ideally, you should be in full-time employment with at least two years of experience in the automotive industry.

You’ll need to be familiar with the skills, knowledge, and techniques used to service, maintain, and repair vehicles fitted with high-voltage batteries and components such as hybrid or pure electric vehicles.

This course is designed for professionals who already understand the basics of vehicle electrical systems and want to take the next step toward becoming a certified electric vehicle technician through IMI accreditation.

Career Options and Progression

  • Electric Vehicle Technician
  • Hybrid Vehicle Specialist

You can also progress to Level 4 IMI electric vehicle training or other automotive courses in advanced diagnostics and electric vehicle technology.

This qualification helps you grow your career as a trusted, certified mechanic and a leader in electric vehicle repair.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is based on practical demonstration and professional discussion.
