Course Overview
Improve or develop key welding skills with the Level 2 Certificate in Welding Practice. Delivered over 2 evenings a week for 35 weeks, this highly practical programme covers areas such as MMA Welding, Metal Arc Gas Shielded and Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded, as well as science, calculations and health and safety. Ideal for trainees or new graduates, those looking to change careers and current welders looking to upskill, the programme leads to full ABC certification. Successful candidates could then develop their welding skills further by progressing to either the BS4872 Testing or to one of our other welding programmes.
Entry Requirements
This programme is suitable for graduates and trainees who are keen to learn how to weld, as well as those in employment considering a career change or wanting to improve their existing welding skills.

Assessment Methods
To achieve a full ABA Level 2 certificate, you must achieve a pass in each of the following 5 units:
- Science and Calculations (mandatory unit)
- Health & Safety (mandatory unit)
- MMA Welding
- Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MAGS)
- Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded (TAGS)
Only the Science and Calculations unit is formally assessed – this is via a one-hour exam paper to test your theory knowledge.
Teaching and Learning Methods
This 35-week programme is run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8.30pm. Learning is delivered by experienced instructors and combines practical workshop instruction with class-based theory.
You will also be expected to undertake some independent learning – your tutors will provide you with guidance on this.
