Course Overview

Course Overview Improve or develop key welding skills with the Level 2 Certificate in Welding Practice. Delivered over 2 evenings a week for 35 weeks, this highly practical programme covers areas such as MMA Welding, Metal Arc Gas Shielded and Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded, as well as science, calculations and health and safety.

Ideal for trainees or new graduates, those looking to change careers and current welders looking to upskill, the programme leads to full ABC certification.

Successful candidates could then develop their welding skills further by progressing to either the BS4872 Testing or to one of our other welding programmes.

Entry Requirements

Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Career Options and Progression

Once you successfully complete this programme you will be awarded with the Level 2 Certificate in Fabrication and Welding Practice.

You could then progress to either the BS4872 Testing or to one of our other welding programmes.

Assessment Methods

To achieve a full ABA Level 2 certificate, you must achieve a pass in each of the following 5 units:

  • Science and Calculations (mandatory unit)
  • Health & Safety (mandatory unit)
  • MMA Welding
  • Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MAGS)
  • Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded (TAGS)

Only the Science and Calculations unit is formally assessed – this is via a one-hour exam paper to test your theory knowledge.

Teaching and Learning Methods

This 35-week programme is run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8.30pm. Learning is delivered by experienced instructors and combines practical workshop instruction with class-based theory.

You will also be expected to undertake some independent learning – your tutors will provide you with guidance on this.

All staff involved in the delivery of any courses within the College are approved to teach and/or assess the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering and/or assessing a given programme are appropriately qualified, with relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
