Course Overview

This Motorsport course is designed to provide you with an insight into life as a Motorsport Technician and to give you the entry requirements needed to progress to our Automotive and Motorsport Degrees.

The Level 3 Motorsport course is an even mix of practical and theory, with all practical training taking place in our £10 million Advanced Technology Centre, boasting its very own 4-Wheel Drive Dyno., Motorcycle Dyno., Engine Test Cell and Wind Tunnel.

Entry Requirements

If you are aged between 16 and 18, have an interest in Motorsport and want to take your learning to a higher level, this two year Level 3 Motorsport course could be for you.

You will require GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above and a science is desirable, along with the following:

  • A successful interview with a tutor
  • The ability to study independently
  • A genuine interest in the subject
  • Good communication skills
  • Hardworking approach towards the industry

All 16-18 year old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course.

Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Career Options and Progression

When you successfully complete the Level 3 Motorsport course the following career options will be available to you:

  • Enter employment with a Motorsport team as a fast-track apprentice
  • Enter employment as a fast-track Vehicle Maintenance and Repair apprentice
  • Enter higher education on our 3 year Automotive and Motorsport Engineering

Throughout your time on the course you will receive regular career and progression advice from our team of highly qualified tutors who have many years’ experience working as skilled technicians in the Automotive industry and world of Motorsport.

A typical pathway to your graduate-level employment would be:

  • Year 1 – Complete the first year of this Triple Diploma and achieve the Level 2 qualification
  • Year 2 – Complete the second year of this Triple Diploma and achieve the Level 3 qualification
  • Year 3 – Begin your studies in higher education on our Foundation Degree in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering Technology
  • Year 4 – Graduate at the end of your 4th year with an FdEng Automotive and Engineering Technology
  • Year 5 – Graduate at the end of your 5th year with a BEng (Honours) Degree in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering Technology
  • Year 6 – Secure post-graduate employment in an Automotive or Motorsport Engineering role

Job roles for Level 3 Technicians:

  • Motorsport Vehicle Builder and Mechanic
  • Motorsport Vehicle Engine Builder and Specialist
  • Motorsport Vehicle Dynamics Specialist
  • Motorsport Team Principal

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed in two different ways:

  • Practical skills assessments in the workshop (50%)
  • Online multiple-choice tests (50%)

Industry Placement and Field Trips

Other Costs and Equipment Needed

You will need to provide your own safety boots and overalls / boiler suit for practical activities. A typical pair of safety boots should cost no more than £12 and a pair of overalls £15.

All other protective equipment will be provided by us.

All tools and equipment are provided for practical sessions and access to computers and all software required for the course is available within the College facilities.

You will be expected to provide your own pen, pencil, basic drawing equipment and a note pad.

All field trip costs are covered by the College. You will need to provide your own refreshments.

Expert Tutors

All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

Tuition Fees
